iangyin covers a total area of 983 sq.km. with a total population of 1,051,600, Jiangyin has a recorded history of 2500 years. The ancestors built villages to live and multiply here in the New Stone Age more than 5000 years ago, and over 3,000 years ago, the original indigenous culture was combined with Central Plains culture to form a part of advanced Wu culture.
As an important communication hub for water and land transportation, Jiangin has been an important major trading lort to Japan, North Korea and South East Asia in lower reaches of Yangtze River since Tang Dynasty. With 35 km coastlines,Jiangyin Port has been called "golden waterway in prime locations". As a deep water port radiating both to China and abroad, Jiangyin Port has a bright future for transportation change in ivers, lakes and seas in lower reaches of Yangtze River.
In recent years, tourism in Jiangyin has been developed rapidly with main new, txtraordinary and special features, such as No.1 Village in China (Huaxi Village), China's No.1 wall (Wall of 500 Buddhism arhats), three wonders in Jiangyin: the acentric man Xu Xiake through the ages, the only existing red bean tree, the unique tablet of The Heart Sutra , and the three outstanding people from Jiangyin: Liu Bannong, Liu Tianhua, Liu Beimao. The opening of Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge in Oct.1999 has added new resources for tourism in Jiangyin.
